Addressing the issue of gender inequalities in education in the current political environment in Pakistan is a crucial chore. While Pakistan has gradually increased primary school enrolment rates, it is clear further concerted efforts to address gender inequalities in education are required to facilitate the achievement of targets set out in internationally agreed commitments including Education for All and the Millennium Decade Goals. With the education sector reforms and devolution, the government can capitalize on the support to plan and implement strategies which address gender inequalities in education.
Pakistan has already developed and implemented different policies and interventions aimed at increasing the enrolment of girls and improving the quality of education in the country. Although there is a growing sense of momentum around education in Pakistan, there is still a long way to go when it comes to reforms in the education processes to improve gender parity and equality in education.
